The Centre for Actuarial Research brings together multi-disciplinary teams to build capacity, improve techniques and produce independent research in the following areas: Demography, Healthcare Financing, Social Security, HIV/AIDS Modeling. The Centre actively promotes the collaboration of people with research interests in demography, actuarial science, social security, economics, finance and public sector policy. The Centre for Actuarial Research at the University of Cape Town is the only unit of its kind at an African university.
DataFirst, University of Cape Town
DataFirst is a resource unit at the University of Cape Town. It is a survey research facility where clients can access data from surveys on South and Southern Africa. The unit provides information and training related to these social surveys. Our resource centre is the repository for this survey data. It provides access to survey datasets and their supporting documentation for researchers at the University. Staff at DataFirst provide training in the use and analysis of this survey data.
Institute for Social Research, University of Michigan
The University of Michigan Institute for Social Research (ISR) is one of the largest and oldest academic survey and social research organizations in the world. The ISR is dedicated to social science in the public interest. For more than 50 years, the ISR has advanced public understanding of human behavior through empirical research of extraordinary depth and breadth. Representing the disciplines of psychology, political science, economics, anthropology and public health, ISR research scientists have directed some of the longest-running and most widely cited and utilized studies in the nation.
The International Labour Organization
The International Labour Organization is the UN specialized agency which seeks the promotion of social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights. It was founded in 1919 and is the only surviving major creation of the Treaty of Versailles which brought the League of Nations into being and it became the first specialized agency of the UN in 1946.
School of Economics, University of Cape Town
The School of Economics is one of the largest departments in the University, offering tuition to more than 3000 undergraduate students and approximately 150 postgraduate students. The department consists of over 30 staff members who cover a broad range of disciplines in economics in their teaching and research. In addition, the School has a strong research focus and hosts several active research units.
