The online economic policy publication, Econ3x3, was established in 2012 as part of the Research Project on Employment, Income, Distribution and Inclusive Growth (REDI3x3) project, piloted by SALDRU and supported by the National Treasury. After REDI3x3 completed its work in 2020 it continued, but on a tight budget. In March this year, with the support of the UNU-Wider Southern Africa – Towards Inclusive Development (SA-TIED) programme, in which the National Treasury and the SA Revenue Service are partners, SALDRU relaunched the Econ3x3 website. It is now bolder and brighter but has the same core mission: to publish concise research articles on South Africa’s key economic challenges. In the latest edition of Econ3x3, we feature an article on how the December 2020 curfew during lockdown reduced Covid-19 cases, as well as a robust critique on the recent Advisory Briefs published by the Presidential Economic Advisory Council by Andrew Donaldson.
