Nilmini Herath

PhD Economics candidate and Research Fellow

Nilmini Herath is a PhD Economics candidate at the London School of Economics and a Research Fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Before this, she ran the research vertical of J-PAL Africa, housed in SALDRU, where she oversaw the implementation of several RCT-based impact evaluations of anti-poverty programmes and the communication/uptake of study results with relevant policy actors and programme practitioners.

Nilmini’s research explores the impact of social networks in a range of domains, including navigation of the labour market, polarization of views and trust in vaccines. Since returning to London to embark on her PhD, Nilmini continues to work closely with J-PAL Africa and the SALDRU community on research projects in South Africa. She is currently conducting research on labour market expectations and on the social networks of South African youth participating in employment programmes.
