Brendan Maughan-Brown attended the International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) in December.
In his role as behavioural science technical expert, he participated in a satellite session run by Indlela called “Rapid Learning To Better Inform Behavioural Interventions For HIV Programs: A journey to revolutionize HIV programs using behavioural insights”. Brendan’s presentation provided an overview of Indlela and showcased results from a ‘fresh start’ intervention to encourage HIV care recipients to return to the clinic. In another session he presented results from an Indlela evaluation of two-way text messaging to improve re-engagement in HIV care.
He also represented the Global Fund Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) Strategic Initiative Component 1, presenting findings from several analyses and reviews. The analyses assessed HIV risk determinants among 15-24 year-old AGYW in Cameroon. The reviews assessed national frameworks to support HIV prevention among AGYW; factors driving HIV risk among AGYW; and the effectiveness of economic support interventions in improving education and HIV-related outcomes.
