ACEIR presents Namibia Inequality Diagnostic at ILO event in Windhoek

The team involved in working on this Namibian Inequality Diagnostic report was led by Vimal Ranchhod, and includes Muna Shifa and Haajirah Esau from ACEIR, as well as Alfred Mukong from the University of Namibia and Mally Likukela from Twilight Capital Consulting.

The research is funded by the ILO, and is part of a broader ILO project titled Towards a comprehensive and integrated strategy to reduce and prevent inequalities in the world of work in Namibia. At a consultation workshop held in Windhoek on the 22nd of January, the team presented their findings to a broad set of stakeholders. Participants included representatives from the ILO, various governmental departments, business organizations, multiple labour unions, and civil society organizations.
The purpose of the workshop was to share the findings of the report and to obtain feedback, and to stimulate a policy discussion on how best to address the high levels of inequality in Namibia’s labour market. The feedback and policy discussions will then feed into the development of a comprehensive and integrated inequality strategy. Overall, the research was received positively. The participants were interested and engaged, and the debates were lively. The research team received a number of useful and constructive suggestions, and will now take some time to update and revise the draft report prior to finalising their findings.
