The complex dynamics of socio-economic inequalities in Africa are being spotlighted in a series of hybrid seminars that SALDRU and the African Centre of Excellence for Inequality Research have been hosting since mid-August. ACEIR’s hub and South Africa node are located at SALDRU. The first seminar discussed the dynamics of inequalities in human capital and labour market outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa, and was presented by Vimal Ranchhod. There were two events this month: Muna Shifa and Murray Leibbrandt presented on inequality, migration and social mobility; and ACEIR Ghana researcher, Abena D. Oduro (University of Ghana), talked about gender inequality in Africa. The seminars are framed by ACEIR research published in a book by the World Bank and the French Development Agency. Africa’s sustainable growth in the context of climate change, poverty reduction, and inequality is the topic of the final seminar in the series on 3rdDecember. View recordings
